1990 Dow Chemical, Huntsman Chemical and the U.S. Department of the Interior announce a program to recycle plastic, glass and aluminum in U.S. National Parks.

U.S. Patent Office study shows Dow has highest number of female patentees of any corporation (received 354 U.S. patents between 1977-1988).

Dow developed the wet compression technology used to increase power input from gas turbines by 20% or more. We are now sharing this technology with other companies.

1997 May 18 - Dow celebrates its first century of exploration and achievement.

Dow purchased Lilly's stake in Dow Elanco and formed Dow AgroSciences.

March 1997: Dow awards $3 million in centennial grants to more than 200 non-profit organizations around the world.
1998 Dow continued to further restructure its portfolio toward performance businesses in 1998. Changes included the acquisition of Isopol in Latin America, the acquisition of the remaining shares of Mycogen Corporation, and the integration of Sentrachem Limited (Sentrachem).

Dow partners with Asahi Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. to open SAL Petrochemical Company Ltd. in China. The company is owned by Styron Asia Limited, a joint venture between Dow and Asahi which markets polystyrene resins in the Asia/Pacific region.

Dow exits magnesium business.

September 1998: Global Ethics & Compliance established (grounded in Dow Values).
1999 Dow seeks to expand its presence in South Africa with the purchase of Hoechst South Africa's shares in the Safripol and Plastomark joint venture with Sentrachem, a wholly owned Dow subsidiary.

Dow and Shenzhen OCT Petroleum Trading Group Corporation of China create a joint venture trading company, Shenzhen Sino-American OCT International Trading Company Ltd. This marks the first trading joint venture with an American company approved by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Dow and TransCanada Pipelines Limited agree to a deal in which Dow will acquire CanStates Holdings, Inc., and its subsidiary, ANGUS Chemical Company. The acquisition is expected to help Dow reinforce its goals of expanding within the area of Performance Chemicals.

Dow and Union Carbide Corporation agree to a merger transaction where Union Carbide will become a subsidiary through a tax-free, stock-for-stock transaction valued at $11.6 billion. On a consolidated basis, Dow Chemical will then be the world's 2nd largest chemical company overall, with annual revenues of over $24 billion, operations in 168 countries globally, and about 49,000 employees worldwide, ranking number 50 on the Fortune 500.

Dow AgroSciences was recognized for spinosad, a revolutionary compound for insect control. The Sentricon System was commercially launched in the U.S. by Dow AgroSciences in 1995.
